FOND DU LAC AREA FOUNDATION AWARDS THE FOND DU LAC FAMILY YMCA $10,000 GRANT.
“The Fond du Lac Family YMCA has been here for over 115 years responding to community need, and in 2020 the need is to provide families with a safe space for their kids to learn in the upcoming school year, offering working parents an option for their kids to do just that,” says Jennie Mildebrandt, Fond du Lac Family YMCA Director of Program Development.
With Fond du Lac schools deciding to open the school year in the Blended Learning Model to students in 5th grade and under, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA is stepping up to help working parents.
The Y has developed a program called the Y Learning Academy, offering academic time, physical activity and peer connections in a small group setting, all with support from staff at the Fond du Lac Family YMCA. The program will run during the school year and will provide support to children in grades K-5.
“The Fond du Lac Area Foundation is proud and excited to award the Y a $10,000 grant to help support the Y Learning Academy. At a time when so many working families were struggling to make plans for their school aged children for the school year, the Fond du Lac Family YMCA stepped up to help fill the need, and created a program to assist families in our community,” said Joe Braun, Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. “That mindset inspired me to realize that we needed to step up as well, as a community foundation, and help support the Y and families in our community,” said Braun.
“The Y has been listening and responding to community needs for over a hundred years,” says JJ Raflik, CEO/Executive Director of the Fond du Lac Family YMCA. “The Y Learning Academy follows in line with what our organization is here for. The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, continually investing in our community. But it is only through the support of donors that we are able to provide programs and services to help build a healthier spirit, mind and body for everyone in our community. The Y is very thankful for the support of the Fond du Lac Area Foundation,” said Raflik.
